Government of Sierra Leone and Health partners sign Country Compact at State House
Government of Sierra Leone and Health partners on 19 December 2011 signed the Country Compact which was witnessed by His Excellency the President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma. In His statement, the President thanked the health sector for their commitment to work in a more coordinated manner to meet the Millennium Development Goals.
During the ceremony statements were delivered by the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Minister of Local Government and the World Health Organisation. In her statement the Minister of |Health and sanitation was optimistic that with the signing of the Compact the MDGs will be attained.
The signatories and main partners to this agreement are: (i) Ministry of Health and Sanitation, (ii) Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, (iii) Ministry of Local Government and Internal Affairs, (iv) World Bank, (v) Department for International Development of the British Government, (vi) African Development Bank, (vii) Government of Ireland, (viii) The United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS, (ix) United Nations Population Funds, (x) United Nations Children’s Fund, (xi) World Health Organisation, (xii) Africa Mercy , (xiii) Christian Association of Sierra Leone, (xiv) Medical Research Centre, (xv) Health for All Coalition.
The country announced its adherence to the global compact of the International Health Partnership and related initiatives (IHP+) and signed the international compact in May 2010 took part in Geneva, Switzerland. It provides a framework for adherence by all partners in Sierra Leone to the Paris Declaration principles and working arrangements set out in the global IHP compact.
Guided by the National Health Sector Strategic Plan 2010-2015, partners have agreed to: (i) Develop an annual operational three year– rolling plan that elaborates the strategies of the National Health
